Kuala Lumpur - Japan said on Monday it would give $135-million (about R860-million) of aid to South-east Asian nations to help fight the spread of the bird flu virus. On the sidelines of the annual ASEAN meeting of leaders, Tokyo also said it would host an international conference on the disease next month, bringing together Asian nations, donor countries and international groups. "Such issues as bird flu and repeated terror acts call for heightened measures to counter them," Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi told the summit with leaders of ASEAN, China and South Korea, according to a Japanese diplomat.
