The members of Etymologists Anonymous may have a lot to talk about at their regular Tuesday gathering: a possible change in the Federal Reserve's post- meeting statement might come as early as tomorrow. We're not talking big changes here. Any tweak, whether it's a tense change or added adjectival modifier, is a big deal for word junkies. After each of the last 12 quarter-point increases in the overnight federal funds rate, the Fed reiterated that policy remains accommodative, that the accommodation can be removed at a measured pace. This was supposed to represent some quantum leap toward transparency.
