Bird flu drug maker identifies a dozen potential partners and picks one sub-licensee in China. December 12, 2005 Swiss drug maker Roche said Monday it has narrowed down the list of potential partners for its avian flu treatment Tamiflu to 12 companies and has picked one sublicensee in China, the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group. Roche has evaluated 200 companies to help it manufacture Tamiflu and ease concerns about a shortage of the drug as fears spread of a potential pandemic of avian, or bird, flu. Tamiflu so far is the only approved treatment for avian flu.
