MAKER OF computer brains, Intel, is trying to force the IEEE to drop its ultra wide band wireless networking standard and adopt Wi-Media its own cunning plan for the future. According to Techworld, Intel has been having a devil of a job getting the IEEE to accept Wi-Media and has taken its own standard to the more commercially friendly ECMA. With the ECMA backing, the Wi-Media Alliance, whose star member is Chipzilla, is expected to go back to the IEEE and tell it to think like it thinks and dump its own plans.
The rival standard is from Freescale, which has slammed the manoeuvring.
