Canadians are clamouring for high-end communication products and services such as DVD players and high-speed internet, according to a report from Statistics Canada. A survey of household spending released Monday revealed the average household spent 3.4 per cent more overall in 2004 than in the previous year – $63,640 on average. Cellphone use is up in Canada. The most notable boosts in spending occurred in electronics. Seven out of 10 households reported owning a DVD player, up from 50 per cent in 2003. Families also spent an average of $340 on cellphone and other wireless services, up 18 per cent from the year before.
