NINE children were injured when a derailed miniature train rolled on its side at a Christmas party. The incident happened at 9.30pm on Sunday at Tongala in the state's north. Rural Ambulance spokesman Paul Bird said the incident happened at the carols by candlelight event at the Campaspe Shire offices. "Paramedics treated nine children aged between eight and 13 years old, for soft tissue injuries (bruising)," Mr Bird said. "Two of those children were taken to Kyabram hospital by private car, while we (rural ambulance) took another child to Echuca hospital. Given the ages of all the children involved, we had to be on the safe side."

He said that six other children were treated by paramedics and allowed to go home.
